I am not sure if fall will ever get here!  Water temps on the lake are staying in the mid 70’s but there is hope over the 10-day forecast that they will go down 4-5 degrees with some cooler weather expected before Thanksgiving week.  The Lake level is up over 7 feet since September.  That has lots of green bushes in the water which is providing plenty of nutrients for future bass growth.  Currently the water level is 1099.86 feet above sea level or 17.32 feet below full pool.  Plenty of hydrilla is growing in the lake which is making a huge difference in the amount of forage available for the bass.  These are all great signs to Amistad returning to its greatness of the mid 2000’s.  There are lots of bass being caught on the lake… typically 20+ fish on a daily basis with sometimes 35 or more!  The size is not quite as exciting… tons of 1-2lbers with some 3lbers mixed in … but it has proved challenging to find those 4lb+ bass, but occasionally a good one will show up.  It’s a bunch of fun being out on the water though catching bass!

Current Patterns -

Shallow:  Frogs and flipping will catch fish early in the day.  Concentrate on wind-blown flats and cover a lot of water.  If you prefer some heavier vegetation or cover that is available as well… but slow way down in those areas and pick them apart slowly.  If you can find a tree in 2-4 feet… flip a jig or creature bait in and work it slowly.  The bite should improve in this zone as the water cools and gets into the 60’s over the next month.

Mid-Depth:  Slow moving plastics over and around points or drains with hydrilla are your best bet right now.  The crankbait and iMA flit 120 jerkbait bite should improve as temps cool.  But for now, stay with a slow presentation either texas rig or Carolina rig and most of your favorite plastics will do the trick.

Deep:  I have seen very few fish on the graph in deeper waters… the bait is mostly suspended and you may see some surface activity in schooling fish but I believe most of the fish are off the bottom and difficult to catch right now out deep.

Tight Lines!
