Happy Turkey Day! After everyone gets stuffed with their Thanksgiving feast get out to Lake Amistad and get some fishing in cause the fish are biting well. Great numbers of fish from 2 – 4lbs continue to be caught in the back of creeks around bait fish. I have also seen a few big schools of stripers out on the Rio Grande arm in the main lake that will eat just about anything you throw at them. Water temps are still in the mid to high 60’s and Lake Amistad water level is steady at approximately 1108 ft above sea level.
Current Patterns -
Shallow: Continue to look for the shad in the backs of the creeks. My most successful lures have been squarebill crankbaits and jerkbaits. I continue to use colors of natural looking shad patterns. When probing the backs of the creeks concentrate on the middle of the drains and target any flats around that may have hydrilla present.
Mid-Depth: Fish in this depth zone have been hitting deep jerkbaits and deep crankbaits fished in the drains in the backs of creeks as well as on main lake flats that have hydrilla present. I have also been doing fair when these conditions are present using assorted soft plastic lures either Texas or Carolina rigged.
Deep: The deep bite has become very consistent over the last week. Targeting fast tapering drops with football jigs and drop shots have been the best producers.
See you on the lake,
Kurt
