Consistent summer patterns have been replaced with lots of water here at Lake Amistad. From the recent rain associated with Hurricane/Tropical storm Alex, Lake Amistad has shot up almost 15 feet. Lots of floating debris have been seen in the water so be safe boating. Water clarity is down nearly everywhere but especially when boating up past the Box canyon area heading up the Rio Grande. They have begun to let the water out and flood the Rio Grande valley and effectively lowering the lake significantly over the next few weeks. Water temps continue to be in the low 80's all over the lake. Check out some on the pics I have posted showing some of the flooded ramps and the water rolling out of Amistad dam.
Current Patterns -
Shallow: Topwaters like Pop-R's, Frogs, and Zara Spooks produce some fish in the early morning or low light conditions around the newly flooded cover. It seems a bit inconsistent but if you keep moving around you will find a large concentration of fish in a few select areas. When you stumble across them don't move far cause generally you will have found a gold mine. Working Texas rigged plastics around the new cover is also producing some good action.
Mid-Depth: Tossing around shallow cranks just outside the flooded banks is also producing some fish now and should continue as the water begins to recede.
Deep: With the all the flooded brush I suggest staying in the shallow and mid depth zones.... its more fun.
See you at the Lake,
Kurt
