Fishing Report Archive November 19, 2015 Fishing has been decent here at Amistad. Not a lot of very big fish but plenty to stretch the curl out of your line. Water levels have come up a few feet over the past 4 weeks… as of today the lake elevation is 1090.93 or right at 26 feet below conservation pool. The water temps have taken a significant dip over the last 10 days and now hover right around 67-68 degrees. With the water levels rising most of the grass is now submerged and some of the hydrilla and pondweed are dying off with the length of days shortening and the water temps dropping. There was a great local ‘Open’ tournament here last weekend put on by Two Guys Marine and had 108 teams participating. 17+lbs won the event and the final paying position was 22nd place weighing in 10.24lbs. I look forward to some good fishing coming in the next 6 weeks! Hope everyone has a chance to hit the lake and enjoy Amistad as it is certainly on a rebound compared to 2013 and 2014. Current Patterns - Shallow: Working any lure over the pondweed or slowly through it can be very successful. Flukes, Spinnerbaits and Plastics have been most productive. Some fish are still coming on Jerkbaits in the middle of the pockets/drains or on the outside edges of pondweed. Fishing the Zappu wacky jig heads tipped with trick worms ae still producing bites in this depth zone as well. Mid-Depth: I am finding more fish located in the zone tight now than any other… 12-20 foot depth seems to be key for larger groups of fish around break lines or grass. Texas rigs are very effective with 7-10 inch worms. Working Carolina rigs slowly have also been taking some nice fish. Deep: Lots of smallmouth are being caught out deep in 25-40 foot depths. Look for very sharp rocky drops and the best presentations have been drop-shot with an 18inch leader or Football jigs… smallmouth in the 1.5-4lb range are feeding heavily. Tight Lines! Kurt |
